Papers and photographs of Gaylord Bradley from Mauston, Wisconsin, who served with the United States Expeditionary Force during WWI. Bradley graduated from Mauston High School in 1916 and subsequently enrolled in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Bradley left school in April 1917 and enlisted in Company D of the 3rd Wisconsin Infantry at Camp Kilbourn, Wisconsin. He was mobilized on May 10, 1917 at Camp Douglas, Wisconsin, and was a member of the regimental band, playing a slide trombone as a 3rd class musician. He left for Camp MacArthur in Waco, Texas in September 1917 and where he began keeping a diary. He left for France on February 18th with the 128th Infantry, 32nd Division and arrived on March 4 and was shipped to the front shortly thereafter; he was killed in action on October 7, 1918.
